Christchurch City - the way it was
Read MoreChristchurch City - the way it was.
I love Christchurch and think of it as my home. Even though I have lived within the city for only part of my life, it has been the centre for everything I have done. My children were born there and went to school there. I have worked, studied and taught photography classes there. Even though I no longer live in Canterbury, I am still a Cantabrian at heart. I am constantly drawn to the city. My roots are there - as strong as those of the grand old trees which clothe the city. Returning, and giving something back is important to me.
In 2003 I created a photomontage of the central city area. Included is Christchurch Cathedral with its beautiful rose window, other historical buildings now damaged beyond repair, the Town Hall, and the new Art Gallery which had just been built. Also portrayed are the statues of important city fathers, the distinctive bridges which cross the Avon River, the boat sheds, the tram, the red phone boxes.....all the elements which gave the city its character. This artwork creates an impression of the heart of Christchurch and the activities which gave it life....... the chess players in Cathedral Square, the Arts Centre market, punting on the river – the FEELING of how it was before the earthquakes shattered its very core.
Enjoy the memories as you travel on a visual journey through this montage.
